Just to let you know that I am still here. Maybe this is the way for me to write more about my quilting today. I am excited about all the stuff I have done over the past few months: Like.. finish some knitting stuff and some quilty stuff!!! Quilts and hats, mittens, scarfs, mending for the children, finished Christmas stuff by the end of January of this for last years Christmas. Dave and I are enjoying our time together here on the farm. He is working on the Kitchen renovations and thinking about seeing our Grandbabies do their stuff. It is somethig.. our first grandgirl will graduate from HIGH School next year at this time. And this past year has flown by way toooooo fast. Here are few pics of some of the stuff I have accomplished? Have fun looking. The birds on the curtain are FSL of Birds... cardinal, chickadee and humming bird. The Hats are in two different colors of red... one matches my coat and the other turned out to be too rusty color. I am having fun in our retirement. Talk again sometime!!!Quilterjane58http://www.blogger.com/profile/00106070184084923186noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1657351154880655044.post-50424622906249099452011-02-14T09:51:00.002-05:002011-02-14T09:51:46.875-05:00Quilterjane58http://www.blogger.com/profile/00106070184084923186noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1657351154880655044.post-73142334261118652702011-01-06T17:17:00.000-05:002011-01-06T17:17:42.715-05:0012 Days of ChirstmasWell. Fold the paper back onto the card so you can trim the fabric that will show when you have the paper folded. You will have to loosen the paper from the end of the stitching line you just created to get the fabic flat on the table and the paper folded evenly on the section 3 line as in the next picture.

Place it right sides together with the edge of the fabric lined up with the newly cut edge giving you a 1/4 inch seam allowance between the section 3 and the previous sections. In this picture it is going to line up with the left edge and will be pinned in place so we won't stitch on the pins.

Stitch starting before the seam allowance that will be before the edge of the diamond and continue over the line between the section 1 & 2 and section 3. As shown in this photo. Then take it away from the machine.

Now you are ready to turn the paper over to reveal the third piece stitched in place. Open out the newest fabric and press it over the section you wanted covered. Finger press in place or use a wooden iron. Pin the fabric in place in the secion you were covering. Make sure the fabric is smooth over the paper or you will have loose fabric when you remove the paper and an uneven finished block. Turn the paper over. Determine the line for the next stitching and place the card... fold the paper back over the card and trim the fabric to 1/4 inch. Remove the ruler and card and turn the paper again showing the fabric side of the paper. Now choose the next fabric and line it up on the newly cut edge to follow. Place the next fabric right sides together and aligned with the newly cut edge of fabric already stitched in place. Continue with these steps until all the spaces have fabric over them. Please ask me questions... this is the first of several edits ... that can make it more clear with each question you have...!!!

I have been playing or caretaking of grand people!!! They are so awsome!! They have played and played are still playing. I remember playing with my cousins...it was always such fun. They have "pretended" to do several things today. And today they ate. I know they ate all weekend and today we ate all day. The weather is near to perfect. Humidity is a bit more than I like but it is not hampering them. One time today they all sat on the deck with popsicles and in their little chairs like us "big people"!

Emma, Ben, Nora and Olivia and Pop and I all had a lovely swim in Sebago Lake Sunday afternoon!!! It was invigorating to be in the lake for a length of time and get really cooled off. However, the lake was like bath water all weekend. Emma jumped off my knees and in one breath would go under my legs and do a flip and come back through my legs. She was really good at it! Ben and Nora and I played with a squirt gun of sorts.

On August 7th there was a Stairs Family reunion at Sebago Lake state Park Day use area. There was fun to be had by all. Children swam, adults caught up with each other and new memebers were met. Babies were fun to see. All in all it was a wonderful time there.
A flying geese quilt from Eleanor Burns first Flying Geese Book. I decided that my son turning 40 was the best excuse to stop everything and get it done!!! I did and it is... the label goes on today and then to the laundry for the removal of the 17 years of dust and kitties. Then to him!!! However I will be taking it to my guilds quilt show on Wednesday and then another guilds quilt show on the following Saturday. HEre are some pics of the progress. I quilted on it the whole week I was at the lake on vacation. I cannot sit in the sun but the camp was arranged so I could be in the light enough to feel like I am on the lake. Very relaxing and I finished it!!! Dave and I even took a whole day on the lake. I spent the weekend in bed but ... that is another story. That is Pepper in the pictures... he always like to help me do things...Everything!! Sits on the edge of the tub when I shower... on the bathroom counter when I brush my teeth... stuff like that.

Quilterjane58http://www.blogger.com/profile/00106070184084923186noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1657351154880655044.post-20475433939395718152009-08-15T08:35:00.003-04:002009-08-15T08:54:55.620-04:00Jane #2 colors

Here are a couple of blocks completed on the Dear Jane # 2. I love the fabric. I am trying to do these blocks every way except by hand. Dear Jane #1 is being done by hand only. Sometimes I think it is easier. I have my trusty little Featherweight for the tiny pieces and paper piecing... even!!! But I still like the hand piecing best.

Quilterjane58http://www.blogger.com/profile/00106070184084923186noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1657351154880655044.post-50048221494920638822009-06-13T06:27:00.005-04:002009-06-13T07:16:18.970-04:00Things at the Country Farm!!!Good day folks,
Today has the first sunshine in a few days!!! I am going to be out and about for the day... or most of it. Emma has a game and I will go to the shop today and do some on Simon's quilt. At some point I will do some cleaning in the house. I spent the day yesterday hand quilting on a Flying Geese quilt April and I worked together on when they were living here. And from then until now... it has been sandwiched and waiting for some sit down time!! I took it yesterday while the carpenters were here. I will have painting time at some point next week. This house is getting a face lift. We have decided that we are going to be here for at least 10 or so more years. So I want to give the decor an update. That involved some things that I did not expect. Dave thought we should replace the chimney and I agreed. So with that done we had and have 3 rooms affected directly. One is the living room which we changed into a bedroom for my Mom so she will have a larger space to be. And then there is Kathy's room and Monica's room in the finished attic space. Dave closed in the chimney space and we painted the walls and ceiling and woodwork in Mom's new room. We also had a carpet installed. That was the hired labor in that space. Then we have Kathy's room ... we have hired the plaster removal and sheet rock done in there. While The mess is created we are going have the remaining plaster in Mom's old room removed and put up sheet rock in there too. The carpenter.. Paul Harmon and his crew are making short work of the messy jobs. Paul St. Peter (my cousin in law) and another young man are working for Paul. We just have to wait for rainy days because it is an inside job and the outside jobs are for nice days. They have the sheet rock up in Kathy's room and I expect the painting to begin about late next week. I have asked to have it complete by the end of June. HE is doing very well. The weather seems to be cooperating.

I on the other hand have had to "wait" for stuff to get done to do. Sooo I have been working at making Simon a quilt for his big boy bed. I hope to have that done by the first of July or so. His Mom gave me some of his little boy clothes that are being cut into rectangles for this quilt. Also my "Baby Boy" is turning 40 this summer! I am quilting on a quilt for his big day as well. That too is for the first of July. And by the 26th of this month I will need to have most of both things done. I get to have a grand girl for 4 days! There will be limited time for quilts and quilting then. She is 2 and such a lovely little thing. Her brother and cousins Nora and Emma are going to go on a trip of a life time... they are going down the Allagash with their Papa as the guide. Moms and Dads and Papa.... they are going to have a blast. I am not a canoe person and so I get to have the youngest. I did do the canoe thing and I liked it when the water was calm. But we had to cross a lake in a wind storm and scared me enough to not get back in at all!!! So far. Maybe I will soon. I have to get my strength back up first. I am working on it. I did the climbing of ladder and made out okay ... my balance is not so good these days. I am working on that too!!!Quilterjane58http://www.blogger.com/profile/00106070184084923186noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1657351154880655044.post-85909939980705074332009-01-04T11:39:00.005-05:002009-01-04T12:04:56.022-05:00Holidays 2008Happy Holidays... now that they are over for last year.... the new year is here!! I had a wonderful season except I busted my knee right after Thanksgiving and did managed to sit long enough to have it be healed to get around after a couple of weeks. The next thing is to stregthen it enough for the summer walking when we get to go camping. And to also get ready for this years holidays!!! I am doing some sewing for next Christmas when I get to sew this year. I expect to sew at my shop sometime today actually. There is a stack of mending to do as well as a couple of sewing projects that I am working on. I will talk about them when I get the pictures to show.

Some of the grandchildren were here for the Christmas times... it was lovely to have them. We even had the opportunity to have them by ourselves for the week between Christmas and NEw Year. The times were fun. Ben had a Jammie Day for two days. He got to play Wii with his Uncle Chris and also played with cousin Emma for a day and was corralled by Cousin Mackenzie on another day. All the children were together to play out a couple of times over the week. Then there were the quiet moments when I got a hug and got to sit quietly and talk about things with Ben. And there were the Nerf gun fun times that got us all up off our chairs and running around. Olivia at 1 3/4 years old was a delight to see learning so much each day. She is starting to make sentances and has naps and bounces when she walks. She has a couple of new babies that are lovely to play with. ONe is a Bitty baby and the other a cute little dolly that has a magnetic passifier to either suck on or hold. Her Amy doll got a lovely new dress for Christmas as well. Emma took care of Olivia one night when I was down with a sinus infection. She woke up with her and then Pop came to the rescue. We all watched movies on New Years eve and "stayed up all night"... after 3 movies we finally went to bed. We still did not get to see the ball drop!Quilterjane58http://www.blogger.com/profile/00106070184084923186noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1657351154880655044.post-1954831886149443332008-07-12T18:46:00.004-04:002008-07-12T18:56:26.906-04:00Jane Blocks

Here is J-10 Cheiko's Lily. IF you are doing the table runner... do two opposite sides. Pin each border on the side that is up. Turn it over and pin the other border on the other side..... sew with a 3/8 inch seam. I did! I have the same border on both sides of the piece. I would put the sides on first.

Quilterjane58http://www.blogger.com/profile/00106070184084923186noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1657351154880655044.post-28543566967194296542008-06-29T15:24:00.006-04:002008-06-29T15:47:50.295-04:00Maine Jane meeting Diana is paperpiecing and this is her latest block!
Rosa got some quilting tips from Sue and Jan over the course of the day!!!

Diana waiting to do some piecing on her little baby!!!

A Whole top complete and it is by Rosa!!! When do I quilt??? Any time I want is the answer to that.... I will let the grass grow.... But then I don't mow!!! Soooo gardening and quilting is my latest stuff. Today the air conditioning and screens need to be put up. HEre are the views out my window space. These photos show what it was like on April 4th of 2008 here. It was very unusual to have this much at this time of year. The top photo is April 20th. That's the mowers admiring the new mower!

Quilterjane58http://www.blogger.com/profile/00106070184084923186noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1657351154880655044.post-41651534499258975062008-05-14T07:59:00.004-04:002008-05-14T08:26:56.725-04:00The snow is gone! The family has gathered and dispersed over the days since I last posted. We are looking forward to the gatherings of family over this summer. It should be a fun one. Starting this weekend we are meeting family several times over the weeks of summer.

There are lovely new flowers blooming in the gardens around the house and the grass has been mowed once already. However, the soil is dry already. After all that snow ...yes it melted ... but it went right into the ground and. Yes, about 1 hour north of here there was flooding because the snowfall was over 200 inches and the ground up there did freeze. Consequently, there was flooding in their space. It did caused lots of damage to the town of Fort Kent and several smaller towns along the St. John and Fish Rivers.

Me, well I have had my hands busy. I have finished the tree quilt top and now I need to decide about the quilting... is it to be me or have someone else do it. And I am leaning toward sending it to a quilted. Also there are some classes decided for the fall ... and folks are waiting for the announcement. I will advertise in the fall for classes and do one semester and see what I can do and how much sewing I can do as well. I want to sew too!! I have all those kits I made that I want to sew up. It should be fun!! The shop will be the classroom AND my sewing room...that is the plan so far. I will move all the sewing equipment and paraphernalia to the shop and rename that to the Studio....and craft out there. Then in the current studio I will be doing hand work and visiting with family and sometimes eating there. Over the last two months I have finished a few things but not lots. I have one sock done for Dave and I am doing another Shawl from the green yarn that Vicki picked up for me. It is soft and is looking really nice... but is taking long time. On the lacy part I think I want to do some beading. I did not think of it soon enough to be knitting them in. Soooo.... I will see about actually getting some stitched in. I have not done this before.Quilterjane58http://www.blogger.com/profile/00106070184084923186noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1657351154880655044.post-3234367328403587762008-03-25T09:37:00.002-04:002008-03-25T09:40:45.634-04:00One final Snowfall Pic!This is taken straight out the window! That made our earliest Easter in decades a bit hard to believe. However the sun is shinning and it is warm feeling. It will heat up a space as well.Quilterjane58http://www.blogger.com/profile/00106070184084923186noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1657351154880655044.post-25566266361927256692008-03-23T18:54:00.005-04:002008-03-23T19:02:41.742-04:00Stitchin' fun 3!

I am making progess... the braids for the French Braid quilt are marked!! Summer is on its way next week. But the weather is going to have to cooperate for me to believe it. Mr. Pepper is going crazy running around the house hoping to find a tree to climb or another kitty to play with. I am still knitting and sewing and doing the "A" stuff to some of the BOM blocks for the shop as well as for myself. That Rose of Sharon Sampler is coming along. I am on block three and it is nearly complete. Also there are three of the last 4 BOM blocks to simply finish. Maybe today will be the day. The sun IS shinning ... that is a plus... but the temperature is only 10 degrees F!!! My grand dog is in!!! She comes here for doggie day care while her family goes off to School and work. I have finished a pair of Red(burgandy) socks from the leftover Encore yarn I made an Afghan with for Simon last winter. This year Emma is getting the sock and there is still yarn left. I may do a Burgandy and white pair too! My friend Vicki gave me a pattern for socks that is knitting up quite fast. There is only 8 rows of K1, P1 for the top of the sock and the rest is straight knitting.

If you are reading this.......then you must be looking for something to do. I hope you have a great day!Quilterjane58http://www.blogger.com/profile/00106070184084923186noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1657351154880655044.post-76227858157049146852008-03-05T15:07:00.002-05:002008-03-05T15:12:08.199-05:00Dolly 3Here she is dressed and ready to go to her
new Mommy, Olivia Grace. She is wearing a pair
of lovely little panties and a nighty made from a
printed muslin with moon and stars. She is getting
more clothes but not now. She has a whole wardrobe
that includes.... Dress, Pinafores, shoes, Sundress and
bonnet.... and I am not sure what else. Quilterjane58http://www.blogger.com/profile/00106070184084923186noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1657351154880655044.post-67288671538052309222008-03-04T08:07:00.003-05:002008-03-04T08:25:33.999-05:00Slippers!

From left to right!!!!!
